Turrican CDTV
This page is a short page about Turrican 1 and 2 for the ill fated CDTV system made by Commodore, famous for the C64 and the Amiga.
Turrican is an Amiga and C64 games series that has earned cult status today.
Turrican was later ported to other platforms however it is widely regarded that Turrican 2 on the Commodore Amiga is the best game in the series.
MegaDrive/Genesis, Super Nintendo even the GameBoy and the ZX-Spectrum got a version of Turrican.
A rare Amiga game is not something very common. Games for cartridge based consoles can easily fetch lots of money on the bay but usually a floppy disk based game sell for very low sums. Sometimes Turrican can be very expensive to buy second hand which is unusual.
Turrican is not so much rare game, but Turrican 1 and 2 was also released for the cool and unsuccessful Commodore CDTV system and games for the CD based Amiga system are considerably more rare than their floppy based counterparts.
The amazing soundtrack for Turrican 2 was made by Chris Hulsbeck. Sadly (not really), the CDTV version is exactly the same as the floppy disk versions, so you will have to buy the soundtrack CD if you want re-mastered CD perfect versions of the tunes in Turrican.
But what is it that has made Turrican into such a cult classic and collector’s item today? I can only relate to my own impression the first time I played Turrican 2 on the Amiga 500: I felt it was totally impressive, booth graphically and musically.
If you want to know more about Turrican there are many fan pages around the net, check out the links at the bottom of the page for more info on this excellent game series.
